Is there a difference in quality?
Nothing that I see. Just the filename. Some image viewers don't recognize uncommon file extensions. Having to rename them is an unnecessary task.
So Chrome names them to .jpg-org?
Firefox doesn't do that to me
At least on linux. Not sure about windows.

Isn't it more like a Chrome bug (doesn't override the extension when saving with the actual MIME) than image viewers?
Change twitter redirection
Instead of redirecting it to https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DNLI-4IUEAA5vVV.jpg:orig
You can do it like this https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DNLI-4IUEAA5vVV?format=jpg&name=orig
It will be saved as .jpg instead of jpg-orig.
